Amare La Cucina Expands with Amare Caffè — A New Hideaway for Coffee, Comfort & Calm

Our rainy-day errands brought us to a quiet little refuge in the city—Amare La Cucina PH’s new Amare Caffè. Tucked on the 5th floor of the SLU-SHMC Medical Arts Parking Building, along Assumption Road Extension, it felt like stumbling upon a warm hug in the middle of Baguio’s damp weather.

This new space welcomes students, hospital visitors, teachers, and medical workers alike. It’s where comfort meets convenience—and where a good cup of coffee pairs perfectly with the city’s drizzle and chill.

My husband Joel and I instantly felt at home. The ambiance carried the same inviting charm we’ve always loved about Amare, only this time, it’s right in the heart of town. As the rain softened outside, we cozied up with hot lattes—the Spanish Latte and Café Latte were both just right—and began exploring the new menu.

Remember the iconic Footza from Amare’s Session Road in Bloom days? It’s made a comeback here—better than ever. The Roast Beef Footza was especially memorable, layered with flavor and served with a unique house sauce that made it unforgettable.

Craving something heartier? Their rice, salad, and pasta bowls are generous and filling—great for a full meal. We shared the Tomato Meatballs Pasta Bowl, its red sauce perfectly tangy and satisfying. The Caesar Salad was surprisingly generous too, and the Chipotle Meatballs Rice Bowl stood out with that same special sauce. I barely made it through everything—the Footza alone was enough to fill me up!

What’s for dessert? Of course-gelato! Trivia: gelato is often mistaken for ice cream, but they’re not the same. I was reminded of that scene in Love & Gelato—when Nonna dramatically corrects the main character for calling it “ice cream”: “Is Michelangelo a drawing? Is Caravaggio a doodle?” Gelato has less air, more milk than cream, and is churned slowly for a denser, silkier texture. Ice cream, meanwhile, is creamier and fluffier with a higher fat content. Moral of the story? Don’t call it ice cream—Nonna might hear you!

We had the dreamy soft-serve gelato—Pistachio and Plain Yogurt flavors—used as a base for the Affogato, a classic Italian dessert where hot espresso is poured over gelato. It’s bold, bittersweet, and everything warm desserts should be.

We didn’t go home empty-handed. We took home some delicious cookies – Red Velvet, Pistachio Cookie and Choco Chunks cookies. They are so chunky and even better when eaten warm from the microwave or toaster! I loved it all, but I think the Red Velvet is my favorite!

Take a look at their menu here:

As for the cookies, I asked the prices and their other variety of cookies:

Choco chunks P100

Choco Mallows P120

Red Velvet P100

Pistachio Cookie P135

Ube P100

Whether you need a break from work, a long class gap, a comforting spot near the hospital, or just craving good coffee and food, Amare Caffe is your new go-to.
