A Skincare Essential
Eye creams are as essential as sunscreen, facial wash or toners. I am going to tell you why this is my skincare essential! I am close to meeting my 30’s and I have to praise myself for taking care of my skin especially around my eye area. I’ve introduced different skincare products in my blogs way before Instagram and I never miss out sharing about eye creams. If you’d like to know about my skincare essential; eye cream, then keep on reading!
My Short Skincare Story
I started loving skincare when I moved to Manila to work. I believe I have mentioned this already in one of my blogs; I was influenced by my supervisor, Ms. Erika. We were just chatting and she told me I should start having a skincare routine already. I was 21 years old then, I thought facial wash and toners are enough, but again, she told me to up my skincare game. So, I did! I got obsessed with Korean Skincare; facial sheet masks, moisturizers and of course, eye cream! I just like to add though, there’s nothing wrong about embracing the signs of aging. I know some people embrace it. As for me, I’d still like to pay attention and keep my skincare flawlessly. It’s like a therapy for me before going to sleep. It keeps me calm and my skin just drinks up all the goodness from the skincare products I use.
Why Eye Cream is Important
Okay, I’ll be inserting a few notes I have read from forbes.com to enlighten you about why eye cream is important. Dr. Craig Kraffert, a board-certified dermatologist and president of Amarte Skin Care said that our eyes get much “greater workout,” because we use the muscles around the eyes when we blink, squint, smile, etc. He added, “The skin around the eyes is thinner and shows signs of aging more quickly than other areas of the face do. This thinness makes it more delicate, vulnerable and prone to allergic reactions than other facial skin.” Basically, when you apply eye cream, you’d like to prevent signs of aging like crow’s feet or to treat dark circles. You also don’t want to show up at Zoom meetings or presentations at work with puffy eyes, right?
What Ingredients Should You Look for an Eye Cream?
Dr. Estee Williams, a board-certified dermatologist and assistant clinical professor in dermatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center advised for anti-aging benefits, “choose an eye cream contains retinol or a retinol derivative in a moisturizing base—look for ceramides, dimethicone, glycerin and oils in the ingredient list. To help shrink under-eye bags; You may look for are caffeine, hyaluronic acid and peptides. In my observation whenever I try new eye creams in the market, what I look for is the common denominator that its claim is to moisturize your skin around the eye area.
My Verdict in Applying Eye Cream
I don’t mean to brag but I like how my eyes look like after years of taking care of it by applying eye cream. I am about to enter my 30’s and I still don’t see crow’s feet at the edge of my eyes or maybe I am still young? I don’t know! I do get some eye bags, of course, when I intentionally sleep too late or cried. LOL. Anyways, I like the sensation also when I apply eye cream around my eyes. Some creams have a cooling effect and it keeps my skin around that area still moisturized and supple.
Bonus Tip: A not-so-secret tip is to also apply eye cream on your smile lines! Whenever you just rest your face, no smile wrinkles would appear! Eye creams are more concentrated (but gentle) than a regular moisturizer!
Eye Creams I Use
Before I proceed, here are my old blogs to show that I have been religiously applying eye cream during my early 20’s:

Innisfree Cauliflower Mushroom Vital Lip & Eye Cream (15mL)
I don’t apply this on my lips because I have a separate honey lip balm. This product claims that it is enriched with cauliflower mushroom extract from Jeju Island to help nourish and add vitality to the skin. Innisfree has been one of the top-notch skincare brands from Korea so I gave it a try. I read that cauliflower mushroom helps repair skin and it even has anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties. I like its creamy texture and smoothly glides around my eyes. I like the faint fragrant scent too! I usually apply this at night time.
Clinique Moisture Surge Eye 96-hour Hydro Filler Concentrate (sample size only 5mL)
Clinique has been one of the most sought-after skincare brands that cater to sensitive skin. Its branding emphasized how all products are dermatologically tested. Even their shops in the malls look like a derma care center. The sales ladies look like doctors, too! Anyways, I apply this product during day time because it has that cooling effect when I wear it! It’s as if it’s speaking to me like, “wake up wake up, sleepyhead!” hehe kidding aside! This is allergy-tested, 100% fragrance-free and Ophthalmologist-tested. I have observed that it keeps my skin around my eyes moisturized all throughout the day!
The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG (30mL)
I pre-ordered this from an online seller from the US and I am so excited to use it! I have opened it and gave it a try already! I also like the slight cooling effect and it smells like coffee (although it says it is fragrance-free, maybe it’s just because of the natural ingredients)! EGCG stands for Epigallocatechin Gallate, an ingredient that claims to reduce the appearance of eye contour pigmentation and puffiness. The product has high-solubility Caffeine and Green Tea Catechin. The consistency isn’t cream-like, it’s more of a serum.
Directions: Massage a small amount onto the eye contour AM and PM. If irritation occurs, cease use and consult a physician. Use only as directed on unbroken skin. Patch testing prior to use is advised.
I’ve been reading about this product and it’s already a cult favorite! I think what’s best about it is that it is good for all skin types! This is my first purchase of The Ordinary and if this goes well on my skin, I am going to try the others!
Give Your Eyes Some Love
What are 20 seconds to apply eye cream? To be honest, I normally spend only 10 minutes on a skincare routine. Additional 15 minutes if I decided to wear sheet masks or clay masks. Quick tip, always use your ring finger when applying eye creams because it’s the most gentle finger. You wouldn’t want to be harsh on the thin layer of the skin around your eyes. Give your eyes some love, apply eye cream!
When I started focusing more on skincare than makeup 3 years ago, I have read it somewhere how good eye creams and sunscreens are the best investments for our skin. Now that I found a sunscreen product na hiyang ako, ang lagi ko hinahanap…that I’m still currently on search for is yung magandang eye cream talaga 😀 Raeee, help me decide! Ano pinaka bet mo dito sa tatlo? Alam ko hiyang ako sa mga products ng The Ordinary pero I’m still torn 🙁
trial and error talaga skincare eh. haha I couldn’t pinpoint what’s the best.
Hehehe…
yes. may eye creams na target talaga is to reduce eyebags 🙂
To be honest, I rarely apply eye cream but you convinced me to do it regularly. Tama ka, what is 20 seconds nga naman compared sa 10-20 minutes na skincare routine. Haha! I will definitely read the eye cream reviews that you linked and I’ll see what I should try first 🙂
Go lang! Trial and error, see what’s good for you! 🙂
I once tried applying eye cream (I forgot the brand pero it’s a cheaper brand) because eye creams apparently are recommended by too many pretty girls huhu pero I was tooo lazy that time that I didn’t really care about skin care. Pero this post reminded me taht I should try this again kasi tumatanda na tayo bes! HAHA
I like The Ordinary now!
Skincare is definitely an addictive hobby, haha! Since getting into it this year, I’ve done so much research and tested multiple products that claim to do what they say they do. Clinique is such a good brand. One thing I discovered is if someone isn’t into eye creams, a great moisturizer works the same way (just apply it under the eyes as you would an eye cream). 🙂
