I was invited along with other Baguio content creators to visit Sparrow Cafe and try some of the dishes from their menu. It was also my first time returning to this familiar space after several years, which made the visit feel like both a food discovery and a little trip down memory lane.
That was how I felt stepping into Sparrow Cafe & Bistro, a new family-run restaurant in Baguio City imbued with a Christian spirit of service, nourishment, and hospitality.
The name Sparrow itself carries a beautiful reminder from Scripture. In Matthew 10:31, Jesus says, “Therefore, do not be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows.” Luke 12:7 echoes the same message. The sparrow may be small and ordinary, but it is never forgotten by God.
Perhaps that is also a lovely way to look at what Sparrow Cafe hopes to offer: a place where people can come as they are, gather around good food, and feel cared for.

Returning to a Familiar Baguio Home
This actually wasn’t my first time inside this humble abode.
Years ago, when the place was still Cafe Yagam, I spent time here with my cousin and friends who were my former colleagues at ABS-CBN Baguio. It had been that long since I last set foot inside!

Coming back brought a little nostalgia with it.
I was happy to see that they kept some of the characters I remembered, including the fireplace, moldings, and exterior details. Sparrow Cafe has given the space a new personality, though. It now feels brighter and more spacious while keeping that homey Baguio charm.
Comfort Food, Starting with a Warm Bowl
One thing I particularly enjoyed was finding hearty soups on the menu. It’s surprisingly rare for me to come across restaurants where soup isn’t merely an afterthought.
We tried the Chicken Chowder and Crab & Sweet Corn Soup, both delightful ways to begin the meal. As someone with a sensitive tummy, warming up my stomach with soup before digging into everything else is always a welcome treat.
I also enjoyed the Chicken Pesto Pasta, Country-Style Pork Steak, Grilled Liempo, and Chicken Poppers for starters. The Chicken Kebab rice meal served with basmati rice, and the sauce that goes with it? It was unexpectedly delicious and salivating!
There were still plenty of dishes on the menu I wasn’t able to try because, well, I got full pretty quickly! Between the rice meals, pasta, and those hearty bowls of soup, Sparrow definitely lived up to the idea of comfort food.

Coffee, Journaling, and Staying a Little Longer
Of course, a meal for me isn’t quite complete without caffeine.
I ordered the Dirty Ube Latte, and I loved that the coffee still came through strongly despite the sweetness of the ube. It had a good balance and eventually became my little companion while I journaled.
You can have a full meal, catch up with family or friends, bring your journal, enjoy your coffee, and simply spend some time there.

For travelers, Sparrow Cafe & Bistro can be one to add to your Baguio bucket list, especially since it’s near Wright Park, The Mansion, Mines View, and just a few steps from Hotel Elizabeth.
For us locals, perhaps Sparrow can become something else too: an extension of home, where comfort can be as simple as a warm bowl of soup, a good cup of coffee, and a table waiting for you.
